The Howard University/The University of Texas at El
Paso (HUTEP) Postdoctorate Institute is designed to
prepare advanced science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) doctoral students for postdoctoral
opportunities and to enhance their future postdoctoral
experience. This Institute is sponsored through a grant
by the National Science Foundation and is part of an
effort to address the underrepresentation of minority
scientists in postdoctoral positions. Participants
will have an opportunity to gain insights and
preparation for how a postdoctoral position can enhance
an academic career, how to select an appropriate
institution to provide both research and faculty
preparation opportunities, and much more. Institute
participants will also network with representatives of
federal agencies, professional organizations, university
faculties, current postdoctoral researchers and other
doctoral students in their disciplines.
