Goal

The goal of Howard University and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) AGEP Graduate School Visitation Programs is to provide undergraduate students with firsthand experience and exposure to graduate education and to recruit students from the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Description

During these programs at the University Texas at El Paso or at Howard University students:

  • will attend graduate classes.

  • visit laboratories and research centers.

  • meet with graduate faculty and students.

  • meet with representatives from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Eligibility

Students must have an interest in attending graduate school at Howard University or the University of Texas at El Paso and in pursuing a Ph.D. in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics discipline.

Students must:

  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2

  • be a in their junior or senior year

  • be a United States citizen or permanent resident

  • have a major or minor in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field

have an interest in attending graduate school at Howard University or the University of Texas at El Paso and in pursuing a Ph.D. in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics discipline.

Benefits

HUTEP - AGEP will provide hotel accommodation, meals, and the cost of round trip transportation for all participants.

  • Submit a 500 word essay describing your research interests
  • Submit an unofficial transcript
Selection Criteria
  • This program is limited to 50 students.
  • Preference will be given to students attending
    a HUTEP/AGEP partner institution or any institution
    that houses an AGEP program.
  • Students are welcome to apply separately for
    both visitation programs.
