The Graduate School Presents NAEP-HOWARD
Statistics and Evaluation Institute


Educational Testing Service is fully supporting the NAEP-Howard Statistics and Evaluation Institute thru the NAEP-ETS Howard University Collaborative coordinated through the Graduate School. This will consist of a series of three summer research workshops on quantitative methods, qualitative research methods, and standardized testing and fairness. Send completed registration forms (see attached) to summerresearchinstitute@gmail.com prior to May 23rd, for quantitative methods, May 30th for qualitative methods, June 6th for standardized testing.


Quantitative Methods Workshop
Date: May 29-June 8, 10:00am-2:00pm
will focus on hypothesis development, study design, correlation, ANOVA, and regression techniques with step-by-step instructions in using SPSS statistics package. Dr. Jamie Barden, Department of Psychology, bardenjamie@yahoo.com, will conduct the workshop.


Qualitative Research Methods Workshop
Date: June 4-15, 10:00am-2:00pm
will focus on ethnographic, interviewing, focus groups, content analysis, narrative inquiry, phenomenological studies, case study, and action research with step-by-step instruction in NVIVO text analysis software. Dr. Dawn Williams, School of Education, dgwilliams@howard.edu, will conduct the workshop.


Applied Psychometrics and Fairness in Standardized Testing Workshop
Date: June 11-15, 2012, 10:00am-2:00pm.
The workshop will cover question development and analysis, response curve analysis, equating scores, and testing fairness with a focus on ethnic differences. Experts from Educational Testing Service, including Dr. Jhan Berry, the Chief Diversity Officer at ETS and Dr. Samuel “Skip” Livingston, Principal Psychometrician at ETS, will conduct the workshop.
