Dr. Joseph Harris, Distinguished Professor of History and
Director, South African Research and Archival Project, will
deliver the 50th Ph.D. Anniversary Research Day Lecture on
April 2, 2008 at 12:00 noon in the Blackburn Center
Ballroom. The lecture is a special feature of the Graduate
School’s annual University-wide Research and Honors Day.
This year it will be one of the major activities of the
School’s year-long celebration of 50 years of granting the
doctoral degree. Other celebration activities will include
the 50th Ph.D. Celebration Hood Presentation Ceremony on May
8, 2008, including a special guest speaker, along with
seminars and lectures on the legacy, present and future of
doctoral education at Howard. Soon, the Graduate School will
announce the recipients of commemorative Graduate
Assistantships and other financial awards to doctoral
students.
In addition to the lecture on
Research Day, awards will be presented to faculty for top
Ph.D. production, exemplary mentorship, and most grant
acquisitions. Students will receive awards for the best
