GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING ABSTRACTS
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Office of the Vice
Provost for Research and Graduate School and the Graduate
Student Council will sponsor the 2008 Howard University
Research Symposium on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in the
Armour J. Blackburn University Center. On-site, late
registration begins at 8:30 a.m. ALL participants MUST
arrive at the Blackburn Center by 8:30 a.m. and report to
the reception area. An email notification will be sent about
the exact reception and registration location.
HIGHLIGHTS
The 2008 Howard University
Graduate Research Symposium offers an opportunity for
participants to hear oral presentations of scholarly
research and observe poster sessions from various
disciplines of undergraduate and graduate study. The student
participants will make oral and poster presentations and
discuss their research with other students, faculty, and
guests.
REGISTRATION
Pre-registration is strongly
encouraged to ensure that registrants receive their
symposium materials early. For your convenience, a
registration form is attached. Pre-registration will provide
you with a complimentary ticket for lunch and participation
in the Honors Program.
PROGRAM INFORMATION
Students from all disciplines will make the presentations
before their peers during the 2008 Research Symposium.
Ten (10) minutes will be allotted for presentation of
research papers followed by a five-minute discussion period.
All posters (Division 05) should be set up by 9:00 a.m. on
the day of the Symposium and taken down after 5:00 p.m.
Poster presenters are expected to host their board for two
hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. During these two blocks of time, presenters will
discuss their research and respond to questions.
NOTE: Ph.D. students’ oral presentations are divided among
four divisions (Divisions 01 through 04). Master’s student
oral presentations are combined within one group for all
disciplines (Division 06). The Undergraduates are combined
in one group, Group 7. The Poster Division includes both
Master’s and Ph.D. students’ research from all disciplines.
POSTER PRESENTERS
Please arrive at the reception desk in the Blackburn Center
by 8:30 a.m. Posters must be mounted by 9:00 a.m. Poster
presenters are expected to host their board for two hours,
from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
ALL POSTERS MUST BE TAKEN DOWN
BY 5:00 P.M.
The University will NOT be
responsible for materials discarded after 5:00 p.m.
