RESEARCH ABROAD IN EUROPE

For Graduate Students

Open to US Citizens and Permanent Residents of the US

The Graduate School is inviting applications from Master's and Ph.D. students who are interested in spending a semester in Europe studying and/or conducting research related to the theme of Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies. Howard University is partnering with four universities in Europe: Universitieit Utrecht (the Netherlands), Central European University, Budapest (Hungary), University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal). Selected students will travel to Europe for a semester.

General Eligibility

  • Graduate students from all departments in their second year of study or beyond.
  • Research focus on Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies

Specific Criteria

  • GPA of 3.3 or above
  • Students must be at minimum in their second year of graduate study
  • For students interested in the University of Utrecht , they must have successfully completed courses in statistics through the multivariate level.
  • Availability to travel for one semester
  • Completed application
  • Recommendation of Departmental Advisor and/or Director of Graduate Study

Terms and Conditions of the Award

  1. Roundtrip airfare to host country will be provided by Howard University Graduate School .
  2. A $3000-$4500 stipend will be provided for food, lodging and language studies in host country for three months (or duration of the semester).
  3. Students can travel in Fall 2006/Spring 2007 and study and/or conduct research with a pre-appointed faculty advisor at the host university with the approval of the Howard University Departmental Advisor and Director of Graduate Studies. Students attending for a full semester may receive academic credit for the research conducted and/or study completed at the host university.
  4. Medical insurance will be the responsibility of the student.
  5. Students will be selected through an open competition by a committee appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School .

  3. Letters of recommendation from faculty advisor and/or Department Chair.
  4. Current academic transcript of all graduate study.
  5. Current Curriculum Vitae.
