Provost’s Award for Excellence and Howard Hughes Research Scholars Programs Plan Fall and Spring Lecture Series

 

 

The Provost's Award for Excellence and the Howard Hughes Research Scholars programs are sponsoring a fall lecture series that will have a global focus and will deal with the great problems facing the nation and world, e.g. overpopulation, health disparities, origin of mankind, and genomics. The spring series will focus on subjects such as the Black Hole, String Theory, climate change, etc. During the fall semester, a series of lectures for the university-wide community will feature the following:


September 24th, 2008 Dr. Eric Roston, Duke University , Book: The Carbon Age How Life's Core Element has become Civilization’s Greatest Threat. 4.00 PM in the Chemistry Auditorium

October 9th, 2008 Dr. Spencer Wells, Book: Deep Ancestry: the Landmark DNA Quest to Decipher Our Distant Past, and Journey of Man: The Story of the Human Species. 4.00 PM in the School of Business Auditorium, Second Floor

October 16th, 2008 Dr. M. Monica Sweeney, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Survival in the New Millennium. 4.00PM in the Chemistry Auditorium

October 21st, 2008 Paul R. Ehrlich, The Dominant Animal: Human Evolution and the Environment. 4.00PM in the School of Business Auditorium, Second Floor
