Required Application Materials
  1. The completed and signed application form.

  2. Non-refundable application fee of $45.00 (CERTIFIED CHECK OR MONEY ORDER). (The University does not waive application fees.) 

  3. Official transcript(s) delivered and/or mailed in a sealed envelope by the Registrar of the college/university you have attended 

  4. Three letters of recommendation from professor/educators who can attest to the applicant's potential for graduate work in the major selected. The letters should be sent in sealed envelopes. 

  5. Statement of Interest - An essay stating your purpose in pursuing a degree in the area selected 

  6. Autobiographical sketch 

  7. Indicate specific program within the department to which you are applying. (Write in next to #17 on application form).

  8. GRE (Graduate Record Examination) - New applicants to the Graduate School will be required to submit scores on the general test of the GRE as part of their application requirements. GRE results must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). 

  9. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The CEEB number for Howard University is 5297. 

  10. Please indicate your social security number on all correspondence sent to the Office of Admissions.
