Application Process
Complete an application obtained from the Ronald E. McNair Program Office in the Graduate School and provide the following:

  • Preliminary Career Research (200 words or less)
  • Personal Statement
  • Biographical Sketch (150 words or less)
  • Two Faculty Recommendation Letters
  • Writing Sample (graded paper)
  • Resume
  • Unofficial or Official Transcript
  • Financial Need Assessment Form
    (if low income)

Who Should Apply

Any Howard University undergraduate
student who:
Plans to apply to graduate school and
intends to pursue a doctoral degree
(Ph.D.) within two years of completing
the baccalaureate degree.

  • Has a minimum of 50 credit hours
    at time of applying
  • Plans to graduate after the completion
    of the McNair summer experience
  • Has a cumulative grade point
    average of at least a 3.0
  • Has U.S. citizenship or a permanent
    resident of the United States
