- Common course on Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies
Within the framework of our project, transatlantic research collaborations will bring forth new conceptual approaches in research given different US and European perspectives on race, ethnicity and migration research. Curricula available for the students involved in the project contain a broader, multidisciplinary understanding of race, ethnicity and migration issues.
Use of New Web-Based and Other Computer-Based Technologies
The project committee will select one course in the curriculum to be developed which will be offered electronically in English, Dutch, and Portuguese. This course will be offered under the listings of all academic consortium members, and will be required for all project students.
The new core course will rely heavily on a range of new technologies. All course materials will be placed on the internet in order to give participants from both countries easy access. And extensive use of email will allow for electronic office hours as well as for team projects and informal exchanges among students from the four universities.
- Preparing Future Faculty courses
The REMS project will provide the opportunity for European and American students to participate in the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program. PFF is a national movement to transform the way aspiring faculty members are prepared for their careers. Students will have the opportunities to observe and experience faculty responsibilities at a variety of academic institutions with varying missions, diverse student bodies, and different expectations for faculty.
The PFF initiative was launched in 1993 as a partnership between the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). For more on the Preparing Future Faculty program, please visit the website: http://www.preparing-faculty.org/
- 3. Graduate Certificate in Ethnicity, Race and Migration Studies
All students involved in this mobility project will be able to obtain a certificate of participation, which in combination with other courses followed at the home university can contribute to a graduate degree in Ethnicity, Race and Migration Studies. The consortium project leaders are currently developing the set of requirements and procedures necessary for this graduate degree.
